What if you got the opportunity to go to Mars, would you take the risk? NASA started on October 1, 1958. NASA explores space, studies space, and learns about space travel. On July 20, 1969 the first man went to the moon. This was a big step for the U.S because NASA figured out that people could travel into space and that it was pretty safe. Mars should not be traveled to because there could be germs and it could make a person's body weak.

People should not go to Mars because there could be terrible germs and diseases there. According to Scienetificamerican.com, "But the scientists' careful inspection was fruitful, turning up a type of bacteria that had been seen only once before." This proves that there are terrible germs on Mars that might be harmful to humans. This also shows that if someone were to go to Mars and get these germs scientists might not be able to get rid of it, and the person could die. Justin O'Neill also states, "Worse, there is a small but terrifying chance that any microscopic life already there might be harmful to us" (pg. 25). This proves that these germs could be very dangerous and someone might not want to take the risk. Another thing is that if the germs got into someone's body they could die or get injured. If the person came back to Earth and had the germs, the germs could spread and get other people sick. Many argue that the U.S could make history by going to Mars. On the other hand, It costs a lot of money to go to Mars. It would be hard to make history if the U.S does not have enough money to send anyone to Mars. Marsone.com says, "Mars one estimates the cost of putting four people on Mars is six billion U.S dollars." This shows that going to Mars costs a lot of money, and history might not be made if there is not enough money to do it. Six billion dollars is a lot of money, and we could use it for way more things instead of sending a couple of people to Mars. In the long run, we should not risk people getting hurt or killed from germs on Mars, and we should not spend so much money trying to find stuff on Mars that we do not even know is there. 

Another reason why people should not go to Mars is that it hurts your body and makes it weak. According to science.nasa.gov, "Without some kind of "counter measures" to protect you, your muscles will shrivel, your bones could weaken, your genetics might get damaged and confused." This proves that Mars could really harm someone's body. It could screw up their genetics and make them weak. Another thing is that someone might not even last a trip to Mars if their bones and muscles get too weak. James O'Neill also says, "The body produces less blood. Heart muscles atrophy" (pg. 25). This proves that muscles will waste away and harm someone's body. This could even kill someone if a lot of their heart muscles wasted away. Many disagree that people could discover new life and new things. At the same time, the temperature is really cold on Mars and animals and other creatures might not live there. Justin O'Neill states, "Windy and ridiculously freezing... as always. (The average temperature is -81°F)" (pg. 25). This proves that it would be very hard to survive there with the ridiculously low temperatures. It would also be hard for any animals or creatures to live there too. Another reason is that there would have to be a lot of supplies to survive the harsh climate on Mars. 

In conclusion, Mars should not be traveled to because it is too risky and there are too many dangers. Some people think this, but do you? Would you want to be risky and go to Mars, or would you play it safe and stay home?
