AW - Barry Bonds in the Hall of Fame

Who do you think should be in the Hall of Fame? The Hall of Fame was started on January 29, 1936. The famous greats are inducted in the Hall of Fame every year. Steroids are also supplements people take to become stronger at things. It heals up the time to work out and gain strength. Barry Bonds should not be inducted in the Hall of Fame because steroids are illegal in Major League Baseball and they make people stronger and faster.

Barry Bonds should not be in the Hall of Fame because steroids are illegal in Major League Baseball. According to espn.go.com/mlb/topics/_/page/the-steroids-era, the story states, "Though steroids have been banned since 1991, the league did not implement leaguewide PED testing until 2003." This shows that steroids were banned when Barry Bonds played. Therefore, he should not be in the Hall of Fame because he disrespected the rules. The text also explained, "There are several reasons to ban performance-enhancing drugs; respect for the rules of sports, recognition that natural talents and their perfection are the points of sports, and the prospect of an arms race." This shows that it breaks the rules of baseball. It also shows that steroids make you better than you really are. The above research shows how and why steroids are illegal. Steroids make your natural talents go to waste once people figure it out. However, this was in the past and many people were on PEDs and other steroids. It would make the game more interesting. Yeah but, it gives others disadvantages in the game. People in the league made it to the big leagues for real and had to work harder for it. Others like Barry Bonds did not have to work as hard, so it is unfair. The reasons above show why Barry Bonds should not be inducted into the Hall of Fame because it is banned in the Major Leagues.

Steroids also make people faster and stronger which gives others disadvantages. The Barry Bonds Hall of Fame packet states, "These drugs give athletes an unfair advantage by making them stronger and faster" (pg. 20). This shows that others aren't going to be as good as people on steroids. This would give other players no chance to show how much better they are because all of the fans would be on the side of the "better player". Which actually he wouldn't be better because he was on steroids. According to gizmodo.com/how-anabolic-steroids-make-you-stronger-and-how-they-1704251441, the story quoted, "The quick and dirty route to gaining strength is to take some kind of anabolic steroid. These drugs actually trick the body into building up muscle mass and endurance - but they can also age you far beyond your years." This shows that you gain more muscle then you should by taking steroids. Gaining more muscle gives others disadvantages because they become stronger to hit the ball 500 feet or pitch 105 miles and hour when they should be pitching 90 miles an hour. However, it would give fans who go to the game to get more homerun balls. It would not be interesting watching ground ball after ground ball. Yeah but, the players will be getting rewards and respected for nothing. They should not be getting any respect or rewards. Players on steroids are always "so good". Really they might just be an average player, but the steroids will make them so much faster and stronger.

Given these points, steroids make people stronger and faster and are illegal in Major League Baseball which is why the Hall of Fame should not allow Barry Bonds into the Hall of Fame. What is your opinion on the whole steroid era and Barry Bonds? Do you think Barry Bonds should be in the Hall of Fame after what he did?
