Inclusive Museum Spaces for Migrant Integration: Bridging Cultures through Innovation

Abstract

This hands-on session aims to equip museum professionals with practical tools and strategies to create inclusive, culturally adaptive programs for migrant communities. Participants will learn how to design and implement museum initiatives that facilitate socialization and acculturation for migrants, transforming museums into active spaces for cultural exchange and integration. The workshop covers three key areas: developing interactive exhibitions that reflect both host and migrant cultures, creating mobile applications as cultural guides, and leveraging VR/AR technology to bridge cultural divides. Through interactive exercises, participants will work in teams to design their own inclusive exhibit concepts, learn best practices for engaging diverse audiences, and explore digital tools that can be seamlessly integrated into museum spaces. By the end of the session, attendees will leave with a comprehensive toolkit and actionable ideas to foster a welcoming environment for migrant communities within their institutions.
