Abstract
PET-origin containers are a problem in the environment, these take up to 500 years to degrade, the accumulation of these has generated affectation in different ecosystems of our environment, due to this several entities have sought to generate new products that reduce the negative impact. Biodegradable plastics are born as an alternative to these plastics, since they are made from biopolymers present in nature such as: starch, cellulose, wheat bagasse, sugar cane, among others. Cellulose is a biopolymer widely used in the world of biodegradable plastics. Ecotora intends to produce and market biodegradable packaging based on totora, thanks to the previous experiment conducted in 2018 by Armas who extracted the cellulose contained in Schoenoplectus californicus , the idea of generating a container that degrades in less than 6 months at suitable conditions is born. The objective of this entrepreneurship is to determine the viability of commercializing these containers. To this end, an exploratory methodology was used to analyze people’s preferences when offering a new product with environmental benefits; a market study was carried out involving internal and external factors of the company’s current situation, which helps us to generate strategies, competitive advantages and define our target public. In conclusion, the totora-based biodegradable packaging is a sustainable business that can replace common plastics, the project is acceptable according to the financial analysis, in a period of 2.5 years the invested capital can be recovered.
