A Case Study on Lowering GPA Requirements to Achieve Greater Outcomes : An Unconventional Approach to Sports in Education

Abstract

Mat Parker takes you through a case study from 11 years as District Athletic Director for the 2nd largest school district in Illinois. The study includes the case (for the school board to adopt), implementation, supporting programs of lunch tutoring / nutrition programs, and results including spreadsheets of data. This work landed Mat on ESPN’s Outside the Lines with Bob Ley which specifically focused on the work with a 5 year gap in between. Mat shares why student athletes spending more time with coaches and mentors rather than being ineligible is the key to paving lifelong success and literally saving lives.
