Creating an Authentic Classroom in the Age of AI

Abstract

The education landscape is transforming as AI technologies evolve providing a robust business case for the adoption of culturally responsive teaching strategies. While AI can enhance and streamline the education experience, it does not replace human teaching and educators must not lose sight of promoting authenticity and human connection in the classroom. As AI continues to evolve, educators will need to strike a balance between AI and human teaching in a way that enhances genuine learning experiences without undermining the core values of education. Creating an authentic classroom in the age of AI involves integrating AI technologies in ways that enhance learning experiences, promote accessibility and foster digital literacy in the classroom while maintaining an educational environment that respects and leverages cultural diversity, promotes equity, and prepares students for the complexities of the modern world. In this session we deconstruct how to thoughtfully integrate AI into the classroom while preserving the authenticity, personal connections, and ethical considerations that are fundamental to education. Attendees will leave the session informed with strategies to enhance student engagement, improve academic outcomes, support social-emotional development, and foster a more inclusive and respectful classroom community while also reaping the benefits of AI technologies.
