Inclusive Open Educational Resources in Spanish: Non-binary Spanish and Voseo

Workshop Presentation
Liana Stepanyan,  Goretti Prieto Botana,  María Mercedes Fages Agudo

Today more than ever there is an urgency to embrace language teaching practices that are both inclusive and equitable. This presentation examines the outcomes of our efforts to foster diverse pedagogical and curricular approaches to enhance student learning, encourage critical-thinking, and ultimately promote and celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion. More specifically, presenters address the challenges and opportunities arising from fostering inclusivity in Spanish language instruction, offer strategies to include non-binary Spanish and Voseo in the classroom, and share open educational resources (OER) aimed at making Spanish language instruction affordable and accessible to effectively accommodate diverse learners and create equitable learning environments.

A New Classmate in the Classroom: The AI Prompt and Its Influence on Student Participation in Classroom Group Dynamics

Workshop Presentation
Maribel Labrado Antolín

This study examines the impact of AI prompts on student participation and motivation within collaborative classroom dynamics. In contemporary education, active student engagement is paramount, and AI tools, particularly prompts and chatbots, present a novel approach to enhance this. Utilizing a Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) framework, the research investigates how AI prompts, both synchronous (teacher-moderated) and asynchronous (student-led), affect group work in an international business management course at Complutense University of Madrid. Fifty students participated in a two-hour synchronous classroom activity and a four-week asynchronous assignment, both involving AI prompt usage. The study evaluates the efficacy of AI prompts in fostering collaborative learning, boosting student motivation, and comparing the impact of synchronous versus asynchronous prompt deployment. Findings shed light on the potential of AI in personalizing learning experiences, promoting critical thinking, and improving student engagement in higher education. By analyzing student participation and perceived usefulness, this research contributes to understanding the transformative potential and optimal integration of AI in educational settings.
