Abstract
Recent online technological advancements have created a change in the public sphere that causing a decline in citizens’ trust in journalism, and strengthening of legal regulations for the purpose of protecting reputation, personal information, and taking national security issues. The general public emphasizes the importance of respect for individuals in journalistic reports; however, this is not an unchallenging issue. The main question is what type of reporting can be considered acceptable? This depends on the content of the incident considered and the positions of the people involved. These trend differences have emerged since the 1990s in line with the traditional distinction between the public and private and are extremely important in showing that media ethics have taken root. Therefore, in this study, we examine the situation surrounding the Mongolian journalism, taking up the protection of reputation and the loss of reputation in online media, and clarify the public figure’s role in protecting freedom of expression and opinion.
