Assessing Intercultural Praxis as a Model to Foster Intercultural Competence in the EFL Classroom

Abstract

Cultural diversity is a fact for most countries worldwide since human movements have reached historic levels in the 21st century. Migration from specific regions and its impact in human interactions is an issue worthy of attention in today’s societies. Thus, thinking on how to incorporate interculturality within education is pivotal for building more just and equitable societies. Thus, this presentation evaluates intercultural praxis as a model to promote intercultural competencies in the EFL teaching context at a university level. The study integrates a discussion of intercultural competencies definitions, and its developmental approaches. It also reflects on the proponents that make intercultural praxis a pertinent developmental model in the context of EFL learning. Finally, it shows some outcomes achieved and some nuances that are valuable for properly assessing and executing the model.
