Abstract
This study explores the capacity and willingness of Bulacan State University (BULSU) faculty members to continue working beyond traditional retirement ages and identifies factors influencing their decisions regarding retirement. Survey data were collected from BULSU faculty members aged 50 and above using a quantitative descriptive and correlational approach. The results indicate that faculty members generally rate their health, financial stability, self-worth, attachment to work, and motivation to influence others positively. However, there is a decline in both willingness and capability to perform various tasks as age increases. Factors such as personal satisfaction, financial security, family needs, and attachment to work influence faculty members’ decisions to continue working or retire. The study suggests several interventions and considerations for the university to support faculty members nearing retirement age, including improving retirement benefits, providing senior-friendly facilities, offering early retirement options, and reducing administrative workload. These findings contribute to understanding the optimal age of retirement for Bulacan State University faculty members and provide insights for policy and practice in managing an aging workforce in educational institutions.
