Abstract
We describe the benefits of the University Ombuds’s participation in the Engineering Senior Design Project program at a relatively small private university in the Southwest. The Ombuds works as an independent, neutral, confidential, and informal resource at the University. Our senior design project is a six-hour, two-course sequence in which the student must work as a team member in conjunction with an industrial internship conducted locally, nationally, and internationally. We provide anonymized narratives of senior projects that featured the beneficial intervention of the Ombuds. For each project, we summarize the interactions among the instructor, the Ombuds, the students, and the sponsoring organization’s representative.
