Abstract
This study evaluates factors influencing consumers’ adoption of green renewable energy technologies in local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in China. SMEs in emerging economies can benefit from sustainable energy technologies to meet their needs for a reliable energy supply and combat climate change. We conducted an online questionnaire survey through WeChat (a popular social media APP in China) from 383 local inhabitants working in various local SMEs in two cities (Kunming and Qujing), China. The research adopted the TAM2 and UATUA models. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the study hypotheses. The research found that performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, government support, perceived usefulness, and green literacy positively and significantly influence attitudes and intentions to use green renewable energy technologies. Based on research findings, it is recommended that those who push for green renewable energy technologies adoption and use in local SMEs for their business consumption should consider safety and environmental concerns. The government, non-governmental organizations, and stakeholders should consider offering incentives to promote the use of green renewable energy. Priority should be given to educating local SMEs on the advantages and strengths of green renewable energy technologies for their commercial use.
