Abstract
Conflict-affected communities face significant mental health challenges resulting from violence, displacement, and profound loss. Unfortunately, traditional mental health services often fall short in meeting the unique needs of these regions. This paper introduces a novel approach that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to provide trauma-informed support. Our research explores how AI can effectively address the mental health needs of conflict-affected communities. By developing chatbots and virtual counselors, we seek to offer personalized resources, coping strategies, and referrals to individuals who have experienced trauma. Importantly, our approach is participatory, involving collaboration among mental health practitioners, social work graduate students, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and community members. This ensures that our solutions are context-specific and impactful. Our proposed participatory approach, combining AI technology with human collaboration, holds great promise for addressing mental health challenges in conflict-affected communities. Through interprofessional development, we can create a meaningful and sustainable impact.
