Abstract
This study was conducted to identify factors in design education and in the classroom that enhance social connectedness. This was done through a quantitative study with 9-10th graders from 6 government schools in Delhi, before and after a 10-day design thinking workshop by comparing the pre- and post-workshop survey data. After removing duplicates in each data set and compiling the common participants in both data sets, 292 students were found to have responded to both the pre-workshop and post-workshop surveys. The responses were compared in a tabular format as well as a T-test was done to compare the pre- and post- workshop responses. The study helped find the key reasons for feeling connected in a design classroom. There was a marked increase in the students’ appreciation of these factors as crucial to their experience of connectedness and creative engagement in the design course.
