Abstract
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) is reshaping the field of design, creating ethical and cultural debates about its integration into creative practices. This study critically examines how media outlets construct imaginaries around GAI, focusing on its perceived potential to democratize design processes and the concerns it raises about dehumanization and cultural homogenization. Using a qualitative analysis of articles from specialized and general media, the research explores how GAI technologies influence the expectations and values associated with design. The findings highlight significant tensions between innovation and ethics, revealing both opportunities for expanding creative boundaries and risks of undermining human-centered design approaches. By examining these narratives, this study offers a critical perspective on the cultural dimensions of GAI’s role in shaping the future of design. It emphasizes the need to balance technological advancements with ethical considerations, ensuring that GAI adoption aligns with broader social and creative goals.
