Process Driven Outcomes in Furniture Design

Abstract

The objective of the paper is to keep an emphasis on the methodical approach to design and how it leads to better problem solving and a user centric solution. The study has been done on class room projects and outcomes related to same. Here I am presenting four case studies with the same design brief and how they arrived at different solutions following the design process. The study would show the methods followed and the final output received at the end of the project. The students were able to progress step by step to reach at a feasible output where the learning happened from the user group, behavioral pattern, ergonomics, demography, material study, form evolution, and manufacturing process. The outcome of the process was documented stage-wise. The final outcome was a prototype of the product which was tested and tried with the Users and validated. The conclusion of this paper justifies how a stage-wise problem solving process can lead to a definite result.
