Abstract
In this workshop, participants will explore how interpretive research methods can be applied to the teaching of visual design, focusing on storytelling and narrative construction as central components of design practice. Attendees will learn how to guide students in conducting research that uncovers the cultural and social narratives behind design challenges, using these insights to inform the development of visual communication strategies. Through collaborative exercises and reflective discussions, participants will discover how interpretive research can enhance students’ ability to craft visually compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences. The workshop will offer educators practical strategies for incorporating research into their curriculum and will emphasize the importance of interpretation in building meaningful design narratives.
