Design Practitioners and Their Imperative Role as Researchers and Users

Abstract

Design Practitioners as the term describes, are the ones, who practice design, in different domains of Industrial design, UI/UX design, Engineering Design, Product Design, Space/Interior Design, etc. Looking into the dynamics of these different streams of Design, it is empirical, to have an application-led outcome which propagates from thorough and extensive research. The problem-solving approach of designers, has its applications from the existing/new research data, which, helps in further formulation of the solution through scientific manner, a reliable method. Thus, this study focuses on bringing out the importance of research in design and its usage by designers. The methodology adopted for this study is both secondary and primary study. Referred journals are utilized to frame the study and survey is conducted among design professionals in India, to bring out the relevant information and implications of research in design fields. The research-based approach followed by designers are essential and hence are widely being used to bring out the relevant study are highlighted in this paper. Different methods of design approach are discussed in this paper for a broad outlook. This study gives clarity to design professionals, and a guiding pathway for the designers and especially for the upcoming designers. This paper is an attempt to strengthen the design field and its research usage and application.
