Abstract

There has been a major transitional shift and awareness across businesses, industries, cities and across the globe about the environmental challenges. Blockchain as a digital ledger of transactions with upright database encrypted in no way can be falsified and provides a platform for strengthening sustainability metrics, bridging the gap between the manufacturer and consumer and no middleman concept being involved and in strengthening the supply chain. consumer and no middleman concept being involved and in strengthening the supply chain. It provides real time information ensuring cost efficiency, decentralized assurance, transparency to customers and regulators, and no intermediary. Block chain through buy in information obtained through recording transactions by digital ledger helps in manufacturing sustainable products as well as building a brand of value to the company and customers who use it at large. It helps control carbon emissions, thereby proving to be a carbon footprint tool for monitoring. It proactively helps in tracking the source or origin of the products as they move across the supply chain, thereby keeping a track of the safety and environmental issues and conditions and possibility of whether they are getting tampered. It helps in consumer buy in by allowing products that are eco-friendly (eco-packaging), products that contribute to social value and to society (social commitment), and lastly of purchase of trusted products.
