Air Quality Monitoring : Become a Community Scientist

Abstract

The lack of air quality monitoring in our country is not only unknown but also means that when you look at air quality you are assuming it applies to you. In my county, we had no monitors until I became a community scientist with my own purple air monitor. I advocate for public health and knowing air quality is critical for my daughter’s health and many peoples health including all children who are vulnerable. My results show how underreported and valuable this information is. Environmental injustice is a huge factor in that air quality is worse in low-income communites and the lack of air monitors means the public is not receiving the knowledge they need to take precautions.
