The Dream of a Bridge Between East and West: Thea Mousa, Trailblazer Woman (20 BCE - 4 CE)

Abstract

The conflict in the Middle East is nothing new. When we turn the history page, we encounter many quarrels between nations. My paper portrays a historical figure, Thea Mousa, the Parthian Queen. 1st-century Rome: One slave woman will hold the fate of two empires—the Roman and the Persian—in her hands. Thea acquires knowledge, wisdom, and bravery to deserve to be appointed by Roman Emperor Augustus to spy for him at the Persian Court. Thea, the trailblazer woman, draws from her past and within for her fast-moving journey across ancient landscapes, creating the dream of a bridge between East and West. In the end, the life of the most potent empire lies in the reach of one woman: THEA. Until recently, historians believed that Thea was only a regent. However, some archeologists found coins with her picture etched on them. She wore a crown that, in those days, only a Parthian King could wear. So, history has now elevated Thea to the status of the Queen, the ruler, like Queen Elizabeth I. So, she was a Westerner who became a ruler of a foreign land, even though she was appointed to be the Roman Emperor’s eyes and ears. As a professional speaker, I’ll present Thea’s life through a PowerPoint presentation and will incorporate Q&A.
