Safety Announcement
Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park presents unique safety hazards due to its active volcanic environment and diverse landscapes. Visitors may encounter unstable ground, sharp volcanic rocks, and hidden lava tubes that pose risks of injury. The park’s volcanic activity can produce hazardous gases like sulfur dioxide, which may be harmful to people with respiratory conditions. Weather conditions can also change rapidly, with intense rain, heat, cold and wind creating additional challenges. In coastal areas, unpredictable waves and strong currents make the ocean particularly dangerous. Staying informed, following park regulations, and being prepared are essential for a safe visit.
